Video Games Taking It Too Far…

So, we are sitting in a normal meeting on Monday night discussing the happenings of the In the light project as usual. Amanda mentions that she has a link we have to see. She sends us this link.

In essence, “RapeLay” is a video game that allows the player to stalk , prey on, and rape victims. Once the player has the opportunity to rape a victim, they then have the option to rape the victim’s two virgin daughters, one of daughters is about 10 years of age. Obviously after looking at the content of this article describing the mission of this gameĀ I was truly taken aback. How could something so vulgar and distasteful be allowed.

Should the government step in here and regulate the types of items being put on the market? Should there be some sort of censorship? If not, what actions should be taken? What are your thoughts?

Although I detest the very idea that a game would allow such content, I am very much opposed to the government or any other organized group placing restrictions on whether this game should be made available to the public.
It is the duty of the parents, generation after generation, to instill in our children the moral compass by which to govern what they allow into their lives. All too often, we place the responsibility upon the government, the manufacturer, even inanimate objects as long as it gives us an immediate scapegoat and face with which to adhere blame.
If a child were handed a gun in school and asked to shoot the first person they saw walk by, and that child complies…we do not absolve that child of any responsibility. The child is supposed to know that killing is wrong. If that child does not know that killing is wrong, do we blame the manufacturer of the gun? No, we confront the parents and ask why they have not done their job.
If more parents took it upon themselves to raise our children with the guidance our communities deserve, the issue of a game such as the one in question would not be an issue. In a society where the content of such a game is met with disgust by ALL consumers, such a game does not have a market. The game has only as much selling power as we allow it.

    Just my opinion.
